New Health Business databases available

Starting December 1, 2009 Proquest Health Management Database has been replaced with two new health business databases : EBSCOhost Health Business Fulltext Elite and EBSCOhost Health Policy Reference Center.

Health Business FullText database provides full text from 490 journals. It provides comprehensive journal content detailing all aspects of health care administration and other non-clinical aspects of health care institution management.

The Health Policy Reference Center is a comprehensive full-text database designed to support the informational needs of corporations, medical institutions, government agencies, and other entities relative to health policy. Its extensive scope and content provide users with a wealth of extremely useful information essential to all aspects of the health policy discipline. This collection offers unmatched full-text coverage of information relevant to many areas integral to health policy including, but not limited to: health care access, health care quality, health care financing, etc. The database features hundreds of thousands of records, and offers complete coverage of more than 200 full-text titles. Searchable cited references are also provided.

Library Hours for the Week of Thanksgiving

Please note that the NMCSD Library will be observing slightly different operating hours for the week of November 23-29. Normal hours of operation will be observed on Wednesday, November 25. The Library will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 26.

NMCSD Library will be open on Friday, November 27, with normal operating hours of 7:30 - 17:00. Normal hours also hold for the upcoming weekend, with the library open on Saturday, November 28, from 9:00 - 17:00, and on Sunday, November 29, from 12:00 - 17:00.

Evidence-based Influenza Information Portal

Due to Pandemic H1N1 Influenza and concerns about the 2009/2010 flu season, the EBSCO Publishing have made key influenza information from DynaMed, NRC and PERC freely available to health care providers worldwide. The information is designed to inform patients and their families and provide information to clinicians to help them with H1N1 diagnosis and H1N1 treatment by making up-to-date diagnosis and treatment information available. The resources being made available will also provide up-to-date information about the H1N1 vaccine.
The editorial teams will monitor the research and update these resources continuously throughout the flu season.

Language Learning Resources

Do you want to learn Spanish? Being deployed and need to learn basic Pashto or Farsi?

NMCSD General Library
has various language learning audios and books. With regard to deployments, Arabic programs are available now, Farsi is on order, Dari is coming out in September, and Accent on Afghanistan Dari and Pashto culture and language-learning sets are in the library now. SAS software suite available in the library

SAS version 9.1.3 is a suite of software products designed for accessing,
analyzing and reporting on data for a wide variety of applications. Base
SAS software consists of SAS programming language to manage data and SAS
procedures for basic data analysis and reporting. The optional SQL
procedure allows SQL programming in lieu of data step and procedure
programming. The Base module also includes the Output Delivery System (ODS)
as an extendable system that delivers output in a variety of formats, such
as list files or HTML.

These SAS products below are integrated with Base SAS to provide one total
system:

SAS/STAT software provides comprehensive statistical tools for a wide range
of statistical analyses, including analysis of variance, categorical data
analysis, multivariate analysis, power and sample size computations,
regression, survey data analysis, and survival analysis.

SAS/GRAPH software is a data visualization and presentation (graphics)
component that creates and displays high quality graphs and business charts
to include scatter plots, 3-dimensional plots, surface and contour plots,
bar charts and pie charts.

SAS/ACCESS for PC Files allows SAS to transparently share data with personal
computer applications including Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel.

Store citations AND documents in RefWorks

RefWork users now have the ability to organize and store documents and images with their citations. This new feature allows users to attach non-bibliographic references, much like attaching files to an e-mail message. A variety of non-bibliographic information can be uploaded including: JPG, PDF, TIF, GIF to name a few.

What is included in this online product?

· The Medical Letter on Drugs and Therapeutics – Searchable database with data from 1988 through the present. Updated biweekly.

· Treatment Guidelines from The Medical Letter – Searchable database with data from the first issue September, 2002 though the present. Updated monthly.

· Adverse Drug Interactions Program – An evidence-based, proprietary database of adverse drug interactions. Searches for interactions between 2 and up to 12 drugs; also includes management recommendations and references are hyperlinked to the original literature. Updated regularly.

· Handbook of Antimicrobial Therapy – This electronic handbook contain articles that list the drugs of choice, as well as possible alternatives, for treatment of frequently encountered illnesses, such as arthritis, asthma and hypertension, and infectious diseases.
