OvidSP Releases new enhancements

OvidSP Release Scheduled for August 14, 2008

Dear Ovid Customer:

We are pleased to announce that the release is scheduled to deploy on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 8:00am Eastern Daylight Time (12:00pm GMT). Click here for a World Time Zone converter to check the time for your local area. If you or one of your users is in an OvidSP session at that time, your session will continue uninterrupted until you log out or your session times out.

As you may know, this launch will include a wide array of functionality. We have decided to deliver these enhancements in two phases, first focusing on workflow improvement and then on new features to the product. What will this week’s release include? All of the workflow enhancements and interface revisions you’ve been hearing about since our email campaign began on July 1st:

Search Tab Additions and Enhancements – A new Multi-Field Search tab provides multiple search boxes for assigning specific fields that allow for a more targeted and specific search experience. Basic Search now includes instructional text with hints on best practices. Plus, we’ve streamlined the main search screen with a sleeker and more intuitive user design.
New and Improved User Workflow Tools – Flexibility and speed are crucial to research workflow. Features in the upcoming OvidSP release include:
Collapsible Search Aid box
Results Manager is collapsible and available above and below the main search box
Ability to move the Search History above the main search box, sort searches in ascending or descending order, and identify each search by search type
Customize common limits on the main search page
Ability to create, edit, and add multiple annotations to a citation
Browse Books and Browse Journals links are now on the
Select a Database page
Browser support for adjusting font size

Based on the phased release approach, two additional key items — My Projects, a new workspace area for saving and managing files, and Ovid Universal Search™, our new premium cross-platform search solution — will be part of a later phase of this release, which we’ll announce in the coming weeks. We’re committed to delivering the best platform in the market, and this phased release will allow us more time to refine and test the performance, integration, and usability of these important features. We realize that many of you are preparing your institution for the upcoming OvidSP release with these features in mind. This phased approach reflects Ovid’s dedication to delivering optimal user experience.

Stay tuned for more details on when My Projects and Ovid Universal Search will be made available in the platform. In the meantime, be sure to visit the OvidSP Resource Center for materials and information to help you get the word out about this week’s release. You’ll find two product fact sheets, screenshots, Frequently Asked Questions, and an archive of all of our weekly email communication.
